Week 3: 5, ok 4 startups…

Here’s a screenshot of the prototype homepage for what we’ll soon call electrifysomething.com….

What a fun 3 weeks. Here are 2 quick takeaways

On Deck continues to deliver

I'm as bullish as ever about the On Deck Fellowship. Not only does the Climate Tech team keep delivering quality content and hospitality, but the power of their network-of-fellowships is coming into focus.

For example, the No Code Fellowship, also in its second cohort, is serving as the glue of Global Build Weekend right now, where fellows from different cohorts build quickly, in small teams. Building faster is cool, but I'm most curious about how using no-code can build community. How? It lets humans give feedback on something not-too-minimal and not-too-viable, something juuuust right.

Brainstorming in public on a google sheet works

I wasn't sure how it would go putting things out on a google spreadsheet, but it worked for Peter Levels. And it worked for me, too:

Low-friction: On such a familiar platform, and I felt like I could really get into flow and work through each list quickly. Here's what the structure of the sheet looks like now:

  • Design priorities

  • 99+ Problem statements

  • 50+ What If's to solve those problems

  • <10 Emerging MVPs

  • 5 ClimateTech Startups

The power of anonymous animals. Almost every time I logged on to the google sheet in the first two weeks of this, there was at least one, sometimes 6 or 7, anonymous animals wandering around. It was crazy motivating.

We've got 5, I mean 4 Startups.

After putting the list out there, I got lots of feedback from folks, but it was a conversation with my daughter that convinced me to fold Get Frunky into Watt-A-Box. Now I've got to pick - stick with 4 or add a 5th? Not sure yet. Going to think on it.
